Can-Cara Celebrates 25 Years of Faith and Service at Webster Memorial United Church

March 16, 2025

Can-Cara Ltd recently marked a significant milestone, celebrating its 25th anniversary with a spirited service of thanksgiving at the Webster Memorial United Church. The event brought together company leadership, staff, partners, and congregants to honour a quarter-century of excellence in housing development and utility services across Jamaica.

The Can-Cara Ltd General Manager, Ms. Sandra Williams, delivered a moving address grounded in gratitude and faith, setting the tone for the silver jubilee celebration. Addressing the congregation, she expressed deep appreciation for the warm welcome, stating that there is no better way to mark a special occasion than by giving thanks to the Lord among His people. Referencing Psalm 127:1, the message emphasized that every home constructed and every community developed by the company is possible only through divine grace.

Founded in 1999 by Joseph ‘Junior’ Lincoln, the company began with a vision that every Jamaican deserved a safe and affordable home. This mission expanded two years later through Can-Cara Environment, aimed at increasing access to clean water. Over the past two decades, the organisation has achieved remarkable feats, including the development of over 760 affordable housing units in Whitewater Meadows. Notably, Can-Cara became the first privately owned company to provide water and wastewater treatment in St. Catherine and St. James, with the capacity to serve over 100,000 households.

The anniversary service featured a memorable highlight when the Queen of Reggae, Marcia Griffiths, performed her classic song ‘Dreamland’. Coincidentally, Reverend Carlyle had selected ‘Dreamland’ as the theme for his message. This synchronicity led to an impromptu and joyful moment where Reverend Carlyle invited Marcia Griffiths to sing with him, delighting the church with a spirited performance.

Looking toward the future, the company recommitted itself to its mission of building not just infrastructure, but communities. Williams concluded her address with a promise to continue serving with integrity, noting Can-Cara's deep belief that when we build with faith, we build for generations.
